Body almost asleep While the mind struggles to survive In this strange land of half-dreams Of rapidly recycling patterns In and out of consciousness Who knows what the eyes have really seen The skin is cold like that of a snake And the heart pumps boiling blood Frantically into the cramping muscles Too tired to move Too wired to find peace In this state that smells of death And elevates one outside of her sickly shell Neurons grasp for straws Keep each other going Though there’s nowhere to go Their chatter echoes Crawls up and down the twisting walls And the time bleeds Out of eardrums in reverberating thumps Until at last There is but an ocean of it
