Literature Text

Sometimes I'm glad that I'm not with you
That we have to use instant messaging when your phone is dead
Just so that you can't see my face

It's harder for us to go without seeing each other
I know, it's a thing we need
To see each other breathing

To hear each other's voices
It's like a douse of cold water
On a humid, sticky day

But sometimes I'm glad I'm not with you
that we have to use apps when your phone kicked it
Just so that you can't see my face

Because as much as I love seeing your smile
And as much as I love hearing your laugh
I don't want you to see me now

I don't want you to see
As I'm instructing you to go to the hospital
Because the drugs you OD'd on could kill you

I don't want you to see
As I'm asking you nicely, succinctly, calmly
To get help, because I love you

That I am crying over my kitchen counter
Nauseous and shaking
Because I can't stand the thought of losing you

Sometimes I'm glad that I'm not with you
That we have to use other means of communication
So you can't see my heart break.
Don't blame yourself, it's not your fault. I will always shake over the memory of the time I almost lost you.

Fresh hell has come back for us. I'm holding fast in the storm. I'm not losing you to this.
